

The event culminates with Songfest and the revealing of the Color War murals. The camp Twitter feed and Facebook page will be updated with Color War information as the games go on and we will certainly try to put up new posts as time permits. The competition stresses good sportsmanship as the campers participate in a wide range of activities including sports, swimming, and dance competitions. The beginning of Color War is a surprise (known as the “Break”) and so are the themes.

Without a doubt, there is no activity more anticipated than Color War! This 4-day event held in the second half of the summer divides the camp into two teams representing our camp colors of Red and Blue. This activity traditionally associated with summer camp, when done right, goes a long way toward enhancing school spirit and students’ educational experience. The final Graduation Ceremony includes a cheer from the Freshmen (Juniors), a pennant from the Sophomores (Inters), and a mascot from the Seniors (Seniors). While at DJDS color war has blossomed into a much anticipated yearly event, other schools can start small and grow, shaping the event to fit their own culture. In the Fieldhouse and the Dining Hall, where the backdrops from Color Wars past are displayed throughout the summer, something magical happens every night after Taps: Powered by the spirit of the Color War hatchets buried on camp, the characters pictured in the backdrops come to life. Some ideas to make your Color War a success: In Nerd Camp, the real Alex Trebek hosts camp Jeopardy, but your celebrity could be another teacher or the school. Credits are accumulated throughout the competition, and each college is run by counselor captains called Deans and Professors. SWIMMING One of the best things about summer is swimming.
