They followed him around, laughed at his jokes and awed at his talents. Most of the foster boys were at least curious about Achilles, all of them treating him with admiration and deference.

He did not, however, seem to pay any mind to Achilles, which was a rather strange and novel thing. This was a boy who, without a doubt, had been raised to be a king, whose temperament was well-suited to the duty, and who would be adored by his people. He seemed to have a sharp memory, addressing them all by name within moments. This boy’s manner was princely-he received his welcoming committee with unassuming politeness and an easy, kind smile. At first however, Achilles would have assumed that this one was a nobleman’s son, rather than a foster brother. New boys appeared occasionally, often enough that Achilles tended not to pay each individual one much mind. To the best of Achilles’ recollection, his first memory of Patroclus was one of him surrounded by a gaggle of boys, curious of the newcomer in their midst.
